Pastel Workshop with Frank Sullivan
Saturday, June 13th, 2026 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Workshop Fee: $25 per person, or $15 if you bring your own supplies.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Color, Memory, and Harmony in the Landscape, a pastel workshop led by artist Frank Sullivan.

The afternoon began with an engaging introduction to color theory, as Frank discussed the fundamental properties of color—including hue, saturation, and value—while surrounded by examples from his own exhibition, Landscape and Memory. This unique setting created a meaningful dialogue between theory and practice, allowing participants to connect artistic concepts directly to finished works of art. Participants then explored color relationships, composition, and personal expression through a series of landscape-inspired pastel studies. It was wonderful to see so much creativity, experimentation, and enthusiasm throughout the workshop. We are grateful to Frank for sharing his knowledge, experience, and passion for painting with our community, and we thank everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. See photos from the workshop below, and don’t forget that Frank’s exhibition, Landscape and Memory, remains on view at Boreal Theater through July 4.

Frank Sullivan moved to Aroostook County in 2006 after a successful career as a graphic designer, illustrator, and art director in the Boston area. He holds a B.A. in Visual Arts from the College of the Holy Cross and pursued graduate study in Printmaking at The American University. He later earned a Graphic Design Certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he studied under noted artists including Maggie Fitzpatrick and Joe Landry.

Sullivan is a member of the Studio Arts Faculty at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where he teaches Drawing, Painting, and Color Theory, and also serves as Director of the University’s Reed Art Gallery. His work, inspired by the rugged agricultural and forest landscapes of northern Maine, is held in private collections throughout the United States.
