Upcoming production: “An Allagash Haunting”

About the Production

This production marks the very first theatrical performance at the Boreal Theater—launching a new chapter of live performance in Millinocket and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Katahdin region.

An Allagash Haunting: Deep in the remote Allagash wilderness, the past is never entirely at rest. An Allagash Haunting draws audiences into an atmospheric tale shaped by isolation, memory, and the mysteries hidden beneath a familiar landscape. Boreal Theater’s production brings this haunting story to life through intimate performances and evocative staging, exploring what happens when the boundary between the living and the unknown begins to disappear.

Step into the deep woods of Northern Maine, where history, folklore, and music come together.

The Story of Emile Camile brings to life the haunting and heartfelt tale of a lumber camp tragedy from the 1920s. Centered on Emile Camile, a logger who lost his life in a tragic accident, this play with songs explores the enduring spirit of the Maine woods—and the stories that refuse to fade.

When a family ventures into the Allagash on a camping trip, what begins as a simple journey into nature becomes something far more mysterious. Guided by the Spirits of the Forest, they encounter echoes of the past—lumberjacks, river drivers, and lingering presences tied to the land itself. Through music and storytelling, the line between memory, myth, and reality begins to blur.

By the end, one question remains:

Was it only a story… or did it truly happen?

Following the Story to Churchill Dam

Before An Allagash Haunting comes to the Boreal stage, we went back to where the story began. This summer, Boreal Program Director Amanda Albanese and Board Member Ben Barr traveled to Churchill Dam to explore the history, places, and stories that inspired Tim Caverly’s An Allagash Haunting. From stepping inside the historic boarding house to seeing the rooms, objects, and traces left behind by the lumbermen who lived there, the trip offered a rare glimpse into the world we are now bringing to life onstage. Read the article below and check out some of the images taken on our trip.
