In conjunction with her exhibition What the Land Carries, Wabanaki artist, Maya Tihtiyas Attean, a descendant of Penobscot Chief Joseph Attean, will lead a one-day, hands-on cyanotype workshop exploring the relationship between land, memory, and image-making. Participants will learn the basics of the cyanotype process: an early photographic technique that uses sunlight and chemistry to create deep blue prints, and will be invited to create their images using found natural materials such as leaves, stones, feathers, or other meaningful objects gathered from the surrounding environment.
This workshop encourages participants to slow down, engage with the land around them, and consider how the natural world can be both collaborator and storyteller. All necessary materials will be provided, and no prior experience is required.
Come prepared to be outdoors, get messy, and make something deeply personal!
The workshop is limited to 15 participants, so please register early. Lunch is included.
