Stan Davis (Musical Storytime for children age 4 and up)

June 10 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Stan-Davis-Musician
Musical Storytime with Stan Davis, storyteller and musician. Stan will present a program for children age 4 and up mixing read-alouds, storytelling, movement to music, rhythm instruments, and more. $10.00 admission to support the arts!
Biography: Stan decided to play the guitar at age twelve, after attending a concert by Pete Seeger. More than fifty years later, his finger-style, slide, and electric lead guitar playing spans the blues, ragtime, jazz, and folk music. Stan also plays bowed psaltery, blues harmonica, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, and trichordo bouzouki.

A life-long storyteller, Stan writes quirky, heart-felt songs about real peoples’ lives across the human lifespan, in the tradition of Jim Croce, David Bromberg, Harry Chapin, Tracy Chapman, Dave Carter, and Arlo Guthrie. Other influences include Delta, Chicago, and Piedmont blues, and the music of Mississippi John Hurt.

Stan has performed for all ages throughout Maine – solo and as the lead guitarist in the duo Hurry Down Sunshine. He has played at One Longfellow Square in Portland, in Maine festivals including Pumpkin fest, the Common Ground Fair, the Alewife Festival, and the Turner and Winthrop gazebo concert series- also at art walks, libraries, benefits, farmers markets, in bars and restaurants, and for programs for homeless adults and in nursing homes. His performances mix storytelling, audience interaction, original songs, and reinterpreted classics.

Stan’s third CD, “All They Know” (2022), recorded in one evening live-on-zoom at Jud Caswell’s Frog Hollow Studio, is a collection of original musical stories about love of all kinds, persistence, gratitude,…and housecleaning.

Stan’s songwriting has spot-on accuracy that touches the heart.” – Lucky Clark, On Music
