Take a trip to Brazil with CAFE BRAZIL BAND, and help support live music in the local community. On Friday, July 19, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., Cafe Brazil Band will perform a concert of Brazilian jazz at the Boreal Theater in Millinocket, ME. The Band features Steven Silverstein, clarinet and alto saxophone, and Peter Griggs, guitar and vocals, performing a selection of Brazilian bossa nova, samba, and choro music.
Silverstein is a master clarinetist and wind instrument specialist with amazing versatility on literally dozens of instruments. He has recorded numerous albums and film scores, performed with the Paul Winter Consort and the Adolphe Sax Saxophone Quartet, and with orchestras and theater groups, including the National State Orchestra of Slovakia and the New York Shakespeare Festival.
Griggs is an accomplished musician based in Dusseldorf, Germany, for many years. He has presented some 600 solo guitar concerts throughout the USA, United Kingdom, Germany, a dozen other European countries, and Brazil. Adept at the intricate rhythms of Brazilian music, he has composed numerous works for solo guitar, flute, percussion, and chamber music ensembles. His work is recorded on Folkways Records, Music Of The World, CD Baby, and Bandcamp.
Cafe Brazil Band performs classic bossa nova, samba, and Brazilian jazz by composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Roberto “Baden Powell” de Aquino, Noel Rosa, Jorge Ben, and Luiz Bonfa, and several Griggs originals.
