The Boreal Theatre presents new performance from Chicago: Book Talk by Audre Budrys followed by Revenge of the Dummy by Kestutis Nakas. This hour-long double bill will be presented on Saturday, July 29 at 5pm.
Book Talk with WIPGA, written and performed by Audre Budrys, traces the story of an aging, newly fired librarian struggling to understand her world. Will she fade into oblivion or find a new challenge to give meaning to her life? Hear her ruminations, witness her decisive moment, and join her revolution!
Revenge of the Dummy, written and performed by Kestutis Nakas begins as a classic ventriloquist act but descends into chaos as relationships break down, power struggles ensue and dark secrets are revealed.
Just as you began thinking you weren’t afraid of ventriloquist dummies, along comes Mr. Velvet Hardwood to terrorize your inner child. Straight from the mean streets of Chicago comes Revenge of the Dummy, written and performed by Kestutis Nakas. Revenge of the Dummy is a play presented in the form of a ventriloquist act by a somewhat confused geezer who calls himself “The Captain”. As he attempts to scale the heights of ventriloquial achievement with his cheeky alter ego, Velvet, revelations from the past cause complications that won’t be easy to resolve. High stakes drama ensues (occasional coarse language/recommended for audiences 17 and up).
Lucky for the dummy Velvet and his dark little play, Book Talk with WIPGA is on the bill! WIPGA is an ace librarian and deep thinker out to make a real difference in American literacy. Pay close attention as she guides you beyond your own fantasies into those of others. You’ll be glad you did. The evening is presented as a benefit for Boreal theatre.
